To ensure that the right decision is made for your beloved pet, I would always encourage an end-of-life consultation. You may say goodbye to your dog or cat during this consultation if that is the correct course of action, or we can book a further appointment to give you more time with your pet or try an alternative treatment option. I will never push you in to a decision that you don’t feel comfortable or happy with, I will only ever give honest and experienced advise based on your pets’ best interests and quality of life.

A typical end of life care consultation includes:

What happens during Home Euthanasia?

Home euthanasia is a painless, peaceful way to put your pet to sleep using a two-step process. This is a compassionate, dignified way to say goodbye to your pet in the familiarity of your own home which is more comforting for all involved.

A typical home euthanasia will include:

  • My arrival at an arranged time where I will greet the pet and the family
  • I will discuss the euthanasia process in full and assess if your pet requires a consultation beforehand (if one has not been done by me recently). If your pet is in crisis or an emergency situation, their welfare takes priority
  • I will obtain your consent for the euthanasia of your pet
  • Your pet will be sedated
  • I will euthanise your pet in your chosen special place when you and your family are ready
  • I can assist with after-care arrangements or guide you on handling this yourselves
  • I try to be as flexible as possible with appointments depending on my schedule.

    You will never feel pressure from me to euthanise your pet. The decision must be right for you and your pet. I will offer my honest recommendation as an experienced mobile vet.

  • Do you offer emergency euthanasia appointments?

    Yes, I try to accommodate emergency appointments depending on my current work schedule. Please give me a call on 07496819851 if your dog or cat is in difficultly. I may not always be able to answer if I am with another pet or their owners so I will ring you back as soon as possible to help.

  • Can children be present for euthanasia?

    This is completely the decision of the parent / guardian however in my experience children do cope well in this situation and it offers closure.

  • Will my pet feel any pain?

    No, the euthanising process is painless and quick.

  • Can my pet eat and drink normally before hand?

    Yes, you may still feed your pet as usual as long as they are tolerating food.

  • What do you inject into my pet?

    It’s a two step process with the first injection being a sedative. The second injection is a barbiturate which is usually a yellow or blue injection, This is given into the leg and works as an overdose of an aesthetic and is painless and works quickly.

  • How long does the euthanasia take?

    The sedative can take between 5-20 minutes to work, The final injection takes a few minutes.
